Project of the Year (POY)
The Columbia River Basin Chapter annually runs a Project of the Year Award Competition, which culminates with an Award Gala in the Spring of each year. The competition recognizes, honors and publicizes project teams and their companies for superior performance and execution of exemplary project management for projects completed during the year prior to the Awards Gala. Projects of any size, industry type and location within the Columbia River Basin Chapter region are encouraged and eligible to participate. PMI affiliation is not necessary.
The 2023 PMI Project of the Year includes a local Columbia River Basin Chapter competition and the PMI Global competition. The differences are in the categories and entry process which are detailed below. You can view the nomination criteria and application at: PMI Project of the Year Award | PMI Also, you can download the required forms and supporting documents from the links below:
PMI Global POY
Beginning in 2022, PMI Global revamped its’ Project of the Year (POY) competition and created the following two awards categories:
-
-
- Large and Mega Projects (with budgets over US$50 million)
- Small and Mid-Size Projects (formerly PMI Project Excellence Award, with budgets below US$50 million)
-
One-entry process automatically enters a submitting application into either PMI Global: Large and Mega Project Award or the PMI Small and Mid-size project award categories. The PMI Global application process is completely online and criteria responses must be entered directly (typed or cut-n-paste) into the online portal at PMI Global POY (applicants must pre-register to enter application).
The PMI Global application contains approximately 31 questions or criteria elements for you to answer about your project, plus provide an introduction summary and general overview. It is recommended that you complete the entire nomination application in a Word document prior to entering responses into the online portal. Answers should include responses to each numbered item listed under the individual criteria element, and are limited to 1000 words per criteria element. Following entering the PMI Global online application, your final Word document can then be used for entry into the local Chapter POY competition.
PMI Columbia River Basin Chapter Project of the Year
Beginning in 2023, the PMI Columbia River Basin Chapter POY competition will use a shorter version of the PMI Global POY competition nomination form. The Chapter nomination criteria requests responses to only 16 questions (versus 31 for Global). This simpler application is intended for projects within our Chapter’s geographic area that would like to compete only in the Chapter’s POY competition, and do not intend to enter the PMI Global competition.
In addition to the changes in the application questions, the PMI Columbia River Basin Chapter will adopt two smaller project size categories and include the following:
-
-
- Large Projects (with budgets over $1 million)
- Small Projects (with budgets below $1 million)
-
For all projects within the PMI Columbia River Basin Chapter region that wish to enter the 2023 PMI Columbia River Basin Chapter POY competition, please use the nomination criteria in Attachment 1 and submit the completed electronic Word doc. file to POY Competition, including the signed release form by the requested deadline (see below for all deadline information).
PMI CRB will send the nomination package for evaluation to a designated panel of evaluators, who are subject matter experts across our industry. The evaluation process and scores are proprietary and will not be disclosed to nominators or nominees, although at the Chapter level review comments will be provided back to project nominators.
