About the POY Competition
Each year the Project of the Year awards recognize and honor outstanding project teams from our region for superior performance and execution of exemplary project management within our PMI Chapter community. General criteria for POY nomination proposals include:
- Met or exceeded owner/client needs
- Met or improved on budget and schedule performance compared with original goal
- Application of innovative, original or unique project management techniques
- Effective management of complex or unusual conditions or issues
- There can be no restrictions on the use of the submitted information after the final date of submission
- Projects of any size, industry type and location within the Columbia River Basin region (zip codes 988XX, 989XX, 993XX) are encouraged and eligible to participate.
- PMI affiliation is not necessary.
Project of the Year Benefits and Resources
- Coaching is available for preparation of nomination proposals
- Newspaper advertisement announcing all winners
- Feedback provided on all submitted proposals
- Opportunity to showcase your project and your company
- All selected projects will present their proposals at the CRBC Project of the Year Awards Gala
- Final Project winners in each categories will be announced at the Gala and a People's Choice Award will be voted on by ballot and announced that night.
This event attracts the attention of many top-notch companies, government organizations, key executives, project management leaders, and other project professionals. In fact, in 2012 the chapter’s winner was the “Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility-Operations Phase” which went on to win the Global POY Award. In 2015, the chapters winner was Washington Closure Hanford with the “River Corridor Base Scope Project” which went on to be one of the finalists for the PMI Global competition. And in 2017, Washington River Protection Solutions won Global POY for their “DST AY-102 Recovery Project” as well as a Global Project of Excellence Award for their “AP Farm Ventilation Upgrades Project”.

Project evaluations and judging is conducted by a group of independent individuals within the Project Management profession. For Projects planning to enter the PMI Global competition, all judging is performed by PMI Global separate from the local Chapter. For more information, please contact the VP of Communications
